The IAYC is a 3-week long astronomy camp where around 60 young people aged 16-24 from around the world come together to work on a scientific research project, participate in cultural exchange and make friends for life. Find out more about the IAYC on our website, iayc.org.
I first attended the IAYC as a participant in 2014, and have been involved ever since. I became a leader in time for the IAYC 2018, becoming a member of the non-profit that organises the IAYC (IWA e.V) shortly afterwards. Since then, alongside my work for the IAYC itself, I’ve worked on a few side-projects, mostly relating to music and LGBT+ matters. I’ve compiled a few of them here, in one place. Enjoy!

IAYC Songbook
I’ve compiled the contents of the IAYC songbook from the 1970s until now. You can check out playlists for each edition, see the trends and download the data.

Nationalities vs. time
See how the demographics of the IAYC changed through its 50+ year history. I’ve created an interactive visualisation using our fascinating historical data.

Those were the days
During the pandemic, IAYC oldies came together to record the iconic camp song. Learn how we put it together from start to finish, and enjoy the end result.

LGBT+ at IAYC
The IAYC is a safe and inclusive environment where attendees are able to be their authentic selves. In 2019 I investigated the impact of IAYC’s unique environment on LGBT+ participants.

Sounds of the stars
My working group at IAYC 2022 worked at the intersection of astronomy and music. Not everything they made was suitable for printed reports…
